Afterward, the crowd gathers on The Coeur d’Alene Resort lawn for holiday carols and a countdown. Fireworks light up the sky, the switch is flipped, and more than 1.5 million lights brighten downtown.
Local tip: Get downtown early and dress in warm layers. Want to watch from the water? Lake Coeur d’Alene Cruises offers a 90-minute Lighting Ceremony cruise that includes a trip to the North Pole and a view of the fireworks show.
2. The Holiday Lights
The lights are the heart of Christmas in Coeur d’Alene. More than 1.5 million lights brighten The Coeur d’Alene Resort and downtown Coeur d’Alene through the holiday season, and you can enjoy the downtown decorations and waterfront views on foot for free.

The Journey to the North Pole is a 40-minute cruise across Lake Coeur d’Alene to the “North Pole.” Along the way you’ll see the holiday lights from the water, including Santa’s 60-foot LED Christmas tree, and when you arrive, Santa calls out each child’s name from the Nice List.

The 38th annual Festival of Trees comes to The Coeur d’Alene Resort on November 27–28, 2026.
